snow, snow, snow, snow . . .snow!

Seems perfect for the blizzard of 2009.

White Christmas is one of my favorite holiday movies. It's corny in parts, And has the classic girl misunderstands boy plot that drives me nuts. But it has some wonderful numbers, courtesy of Bing Crosby, Rosemary Clooney, Danny Kaye and Vera-Ellen. My favorite is "Snow." I love how they make the winter scene out of two napkins as they wait for their "snow" cocktails.

I guess I'm not alone in loving this one. AMC is showing it all day long on Xmas Eve

I love these old movies! The music is great, but I am always fascinated by the fashion. Did all men wear coats and ties to ride a train or was this look just for the movies? And the women's hair, make-up and ahem, foundation garments, so alien to today's look of jeans and whatever is comfortable. How times change!

Me too! This particular film (mid 50s) was my mom's era and she really did dress a lot like that, down to slips, half-slips, etc. Some of her outfits survived and I used them to go clubbing in NYC in the 80s! I think some of her nicer dresses are still in my friend Sonia's attic...She uused to tell stories of going out in a snowstorm like we just had in NYC in her stocking and heels. She never went anywhere (in NY) w/o stockings and red lipstick. She still wears the red lipstick...
