ponytail

Why are ponytails on little girls and young women cute, but on women of a certain age (when worn  in public somewhere besides the gym or while doing laundry) just a sign of giving up?

Who knew the ponytail could be such a controversial hairstyle?

Of course some women could pull off a ponytail or any hairstyle.

I'm not entirely sure I agree. A high and perky ponytail, maybe, but a low, no-nonsense, get the hair out of the way ponytail is suitable for any age, to my thinking. But, then, I am so out of touch with the world of fashion ...--Mario

I'm just having fun. And Audrey of course proves that a ponytail can always look elegant. But it does seem sometimes as I'm out and about that the majority of ponytails I see look like their wearers just couldn't face even dragging a comb through their hair that morning. Maybe it's a Florida/casual thing.

Of course you're just having fun, and my reply should have matched your tone better. Long hair is a pain to keep unsnarled, though, so I can sympathize with those who can't face dragging a comb through in the morning. It can be a major effort, and sometimes there isn't enough caffeine in the world to keep you going through it ... ;)
