holiday sing-along #3

"Holiday music seems to be rife with not just good and bad songs, but songs by artists you might not automatically associate with the holidays.

They are most definitely not sung by Bing Crosby or Nat King Cole, but you can't argue with these classics:

Merry Christmas (I Don't Wanna Fight Tonight), The Ramones — Sing it, Joey!

Chanukah Song, Adam Sandler — I still enjoy this as much as when I first heard him do it on SNL.

Christmas in Hollis, Run-D.M.C. — This holiday rap has humor, great lyrics and a fabulous groove.

Christmas Wrapping, The Waitresses — Sort of a one-hit-wonder like so many Christmas songs, but I still have a lot of affection for this one, which is so perfectly '80s.

Father Christmas, The Kinks — I love Ray Davies's dose of reality mixed with his trademark humor:

"Father Christmas, give us some money
Don't mess around with those silly toys.
We'll beat you up if you don't hand it over
We want your bread so don't make us annoyed
Give all the toys to the little rich boys"

Christmas All Over Again, Tom Petty — Petty at his most Wilbury, this is such a great tune.

Please Come Home for Christmas, The Eagles — I love the bluesy vibe of this song. It really transcends Christmas music and just becomes a great song.

And just one more. I've never understood why this Monty Python tune hasn't joined the holiday rotation:
